Mama's Broke is a folk duo from Canada's east coast. They came together on the road, which continues to shape their unique gritty style. Their two strong voices blend to create haunting harmonies, while they artfully juggle an array of instruments including fiddle, banjo, guitar and mandolin, and incorporate traditional dance and foot percussion as part of their performance. Original songwriting drawing on a variety of folk traditions, from old-time to Balkan, create a soundscape both familiar and new. Since forming the band in 2014, and releasing their debut EP, Mama's Broke has completed two European tours, one North American tour, and they are continuing to gain momentum fast.
Belligerence will join Mama’s Broke from New Orleans. Their music is written by Agro Eli and Lil Bo, which they describe as “Creepy music from under the bed . . .” Upon listening to their recordings one is reminded of Tom Wait’s whaling voice along with ghoulish player piano.
